Wednesday

We've had something of a reprieve from the heat wave of the past couple weeks, so Lauren Clay and I spent the morning on a walk and visit to the park. She actually slept in until almost 9, so I had an unexpectedly quiet morning to straighten the house, make the bed, mop the floors, do some laundry and check e-mails. It's amazing how much you can accomplish when a little one isn't following you around to unfold laundry, lie on the bed while you attempt to make it, dump out toys you've just put away and splash in the water while you attempt to wash dishes. Here's a picture I snapped yesterday about 10 minutes after I'd straightened up the den:

The most exciting event of the day was when we got a visit from the dog groomer. I met the owner of this company the same day I mentioned to John that I was going to take Henry somewhere to get a bath. I am getting too pregnant and too allergy-prone to do it myself. Around 1:15 today, Janice called and said she was on her way, so Henry spent a few minutes getting a bath, a nail clipping, an ear-washing, etc. in the van pictured below. Lauren Clay was not excited about someone coming to get him and take him into a van, so she spent the 20 minutes in tears, but it was totally worth it. Henry looks squeaky clean!

This picture is not good, but it does sort of capture the wild-eyed look Henry gets after a bath. It was hard to get him to sit still long enough to take a picture. He ran around the house for about 30 minutes after he was dropped off (can you tell that the rug has been pushed into the table? He did that on one of his sprints through the living room.) He's wearing the bandana the groomer tied around his neck.
