first days

We have had a fun few first days with Ty. Lots of friends and family have been to visit and we have had some great bonding time. We return home in the morning and i am so ready to be free to move around beyond the hallway of the hospital's mother/baby unit, to get a pumpkin spice latte and eat some sushi.

We're about to turn off the lights so we can get some sleep, and we hope we'll have an uneventful night tonight. Last night at about 4AM the nurse came running in to make sure Ty was okay. Apparently he had kicked off his security band and had set off alarms across the hospital for all staff to guard the doors and not let anyone carrying a baby leave the building. He was fine, of course... just caused lots of commotion!

I'm posting a video of JT and John. Ty's been asleep most of the time, so this is a rare moment caught on camera.

I am feeling pretty good now and am able to walk around better and better by the hour. At this point the worst part is being caught off guard with a laugh. If you've had a c-section, you know that a laugh causes SHARP pain. Two or three times I've laughed and cried at the same time, and the worst part is that it is really hard to stop laughing once I get started. It's the kind of thing where knowing you can't laugh makes a situation that much funnier. For some crazy reason I asked if we could watch Saturday Night Live tonight. I was laughing hysterically and crying in pain within the first two minutes... so we had to turn it off. Guess I'll have to wait to watch Brian Williams hosting SNL until after my incision has healed a bit more. The interesting thing is that I feel as good as I've felt post-surgery after having laughed like that. I don't know if the laugh just aided the healing or if I'm on a nice balance of pain meds right now. Whatever it is, it's good!

We're excited to get home and be a family again. I miss Lauren Clay and I know she is pretty confused about what's going on right now. We'll be sure to update the blog on how the transition to home goes. I'm off to try to sleep before Ty asks to eat again...
