Lauren Clay and I dropped John off at the tailgate site around noon and planned to head over to the pre-game festivities after Lauren Clay's nap. Unfortunately, she only took a 10ish-minute nap (not sure why she was so wound up), and we eventually just gave up and headed over to the stadium around 3:15. She did fall asleep just before the game started, so she got a bit of a nap to hold her over until bedtime.
In keeping with the new schedule we're trying to solidify, Lauren Clay and I only stayed at the game until about 7:30 (just in time for the shade to make it to our section of the stadium!) Lauren Clay was into the game, though, and would have probably enjoyed sticking around until the end. When we got home, I turned on the TV to hear the rest of the game while she bathed, and she kept saying, "I wanna watch CATS CATS CATS!" Here she is in her shades and cheerleading uniform:

She is now sleeping soundly (ah, the sweet sound of peaceful sleep)... and I am taking a quick opportunity to update the blog before propping up my mildly swollen ankles and curling up with the wonderful book I'm reading (Jodi Picoult's Second Glance.) Now that I'm taking the time to read non-research books, I am having a hard time finding ones in which I savor both the story and the writer's craft. Seems like when the story is good, the writing is mediocre or the language is crass. Or when the writing is rich, the content is less-than edifying. This one has an intriguing storyline and skillful presentation. The style reminds me a little bit of the "real maravilloso"-- or is it "realismo májico"?-- that you see in the writing of Gabriel Garcia Marquez (Hundred Years of Solitude.) The book is a little eerie at times, but it's not scary. So far, I've not had to skim over any lewd content, and the language has been relatively clean (maybe 4 swear words in the first 100 pages.) I'm anxious to see how the story plays out, but I'll be sad for this one to end. Do any of you blog readers have any book recommendations?

Too cute! We had our first football get-together tonight. Tabitha made the best ribs I have ever had! Yum! as for the reading, I have just found Jodi Piccoult as well and just finished an interesting one called Vanishing Acts. I am still partial to Dean Koontz and my new favorite character since there are no new Odd Thomas books is Christoper Snow in Fear Nothing and Seize the Night. I love love love Eugenia Price and Francine Rivers too. Redeeming Love is one of my alltime favorite books. if you have never read it I gave it to Mel one year for Christmas and it is on that shelf in her garage. I don't think she has ever read it. Glad sleeping is going so well!
Our sleep adventures have been doing pretty well also. 3 of the last 4 days, he went to sleep on his own within probably 30 min and today he went to sleep in less than 20 so Pat actually had not left the room yet. We, however, are having some crazy fits as of late. The kind where you can't figure out what is the trigger or what is his solution to the problem.....really I don't think there is any issue but CONTROL, he wants it and is frustrated because we don't seem to give it up.... ;) The fit today after church was almost funny.... almost. It was so crazy that Pat and I just kept looking at each other like...oh my goodness, what are we supposed to do? But, we progressed thru it and he turned back into our sweet little boy and ate his lunch and watched Dora like there was nothing wrong. Amazing! And, for your reading question, boy, do I love a good book to get me thru days like these....probably should be the Bible more often especially on days like these....but I love historical fiction and you can't beat Brock and Bodie Thoene for that... I have just finished the 5th book of their series during bible times. It makes the bible come alive. I also love a good writer and for just good mind candy (Pat's terminology), I loved all of Rosimande Pilcher (sp?)....she writes out of England and you actually can feel the scenery and taste the food that she describes....love her. I also like weird sci fi but Christian oriented stuff like Ted Dekker and our newest discovery, Robin Parrish. Why do I always write so much, sorry, we need to have more play dates or something..... have a great labor day! Karen
